Introduction to HTML

Hello everyone! In this HTML Tutorial Series I will be teaching you whole HTML.

At the end of this tutorial you will be able to make html web pages and know almost all HTML Tags.

What is HTML ?

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications.  (Wikipedia)

  • HTML describes the structure of Web pages.
  • HTML elements are the building blocks of HTML pages
  • HTML elements are represented by tags

HTML Elements

HTML elements are the building blocks of HTML pages. HTML elements are delineated by tags, written using angle brackets. Tags such as <img /> and <input /> directly introduce content into the page. Other tags such as <p></p> surround and provide information about document text and may include other tags as sub-elements. Browsers do not display the HTML tags, but use them to interpret the content of the page.

HTML file extensions

HTML file can be save as .htm or .html

Example: filename.html OR filename.htm

HTML Document Structure

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>

<head>
    <title>Page Title</title>
</head>

<body>

    <h1>My First Heading</h1>
    <p>My first paragraph.</p>

</body>

</html>

Explanation

  • The <!DOCTYPE html> declaration defines this document to be HTML5
  • The <html> element is the root element of an HTML page
  • The <head> element contains meta information about the document
  • The <title> element specifies a title for the document
  • The <body> element contains the visible page content
  • The <h1> element defines a large heading
  • The <p> element defines a paragraph

HTML Visual Page Structure

Note: Only Content inside <body></body>  tag is displayed in browser.

Next we will learn about different tags of HTML and then build sample web page.
